just been over to Superhero Hype and spotted this...
The Los Angeles Times recently spoke to The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier and got quotes about what he's seen of The First Avenger: Captain America and his dream for The Avengers. Here are several clips from the article:
LL: ...I have seen some of the design work they’re doing for Captain America and it looks amazing. It’s a period piece and it’s like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and with more gadgets...
GB: Well that makes sense, I know Feige and his team turned to Joe Johnston because of his art direction work on “Raiders” and the fact that he directed “The Rocketeer.”
LL: Yes, exactly, so it’s “Raiders” meets "Rocketeer” and “Saving Private Ryan.” It’s going to be so cool.
LL: ...You know, you asked about my dream, I’ll tell you my real dream: To work with Joe Johnston and [“Thor” director] Kenneth Branagh and Jon Favreau and make like a triptych. We do four movies. We release them one a month for the summer. Or even every two weeks or three weeks. And the whole summer would be Avengers summer. So we do it the way they make television shows. One story arc but told in installments by different directors. So all of the directors that touch part of the Avengers world would do a part; we could make the movies shorter, maybe less than an hour and a half, and we use the same sets and save Marvel money. I would love to sit around a table with all of them a kick around the story. That’s my dream.
Been looking forward to this but now I'm excited! _________________ All the best

Dang! that does make it a lot more appealing!
After all, this'll be like the third attempt to put Cap on the big screen, and the first two were... I guess lackluster's the nicest I can say about them.
Then again, the first attempt to do Spider-Man didn't go that well either.
Great Caesar's Ghost, CB! I understand your desire to merge superpowers and HEX now! Put the pulp back in supers! YES!!!
I... see the light!

Oh yeah! I must admit that my interest in SuperUbiquity is totally from a Hi-Pulp angle.
That Cap America movie did suck didn't it? Not as bad as Nick Fury Agent of SHEILD, with David Hasslehoff....it was like a car wreck once it sunk just how awful it was I just couldn't turn away! _________________ All the best

Are you talking about the Cap movie that was made for T.V. where he wore a motorcycle helmet or are we talking the bad late 80's early 90's Cap movie that was never released to the public? Both are truly awful bad, but I can't talk too much smack about the older motorcycle helmet one due to the fact that I thought it was a funny and silly take on the material. I also liked it as a kid. _________________ DANGER MAGNET! at WWW.DANGERMAGNET.COM is your source for a FREE Hollow Earth Expedition Electronic Magazine! |

Yes.
Seriously, I was speaking more of the later one, which is the one painfully taking up space in my memory banks.

I have a vague memory of that one having the shield, made of clear plexiglass, be an integral part of the motorcycle (the windshield, IIRC).
IMO, if this new movie can capture the essence of that one page from Utlimates #1, where Cap is cresting a hill, Tommy gun in one hand, shield in the other, exhorting the troops pinned down with, "What are you wating for, boys? Christmas?" I'll be content. _________________

Got to admit I do like me some Ultimates...
"Surrender....Surrender!
Points to "A" on fore-head
"Do you think this stands for France?!!"
Not PC, but it made laugh out loud the first time I read that. _________________ All the best

Yup.
Did you see the riff of that scene they used in Nextwave? Hi-larious! _________________

Actually, the really bad Cap movie from the early 90s was released to the public (and I've got the scars to prove it). Full of great ideas like the Red Skull is a disgruntled Italian fascist rather than the supreme Nazi mad dog we know and hate from 60+ years of comic book hijinks.
Now, there was a really bad Fantastic Four movie from the early 90s that never released to the public, but a friend of mine who was a huge FF fan scored a bootleg copy...much to his regret Lets just say, this thing made the Cap movie look like a blockbuster! |

Well that's a relief, the period piece approach is what I was hoping for.

You're being very kind.

At least Nick Fury was pretty close to the source material, both Cap installments where off. Even if they where at all close they missed on very important parts; such as the Red Skull thing mentioned by K.G. _________________ "...there's some Nazi chins waiting for a good, ole' American bruising!" I'll correct myself. It was never released to theaters. Bootleg copies are still in wide circulation. I'd bet there is a copy at Gen Con somewhere. _________________ DANGER MAGNET! at WWW.DANGERMAGNET.COM is your source for a FREE Hollow Earth Expedition Electronic Magazine! |

You're gonna make me track it down now so I can subject innocent victims to it, aren't you?
As for the FF movie, I've seen it AND the JLA movie, where David Ogden Stiers (Yeah, Maj. Winchester from MASH) plays the Martian Manhunter.
I've also watched the Dr. Strange TV pilot (and might even still have the VHS tape somewhere) and the Aquaman TV pilot online.
Yes, I am a glutton for punishment. Your point?
Push the button, Frank! _________________
